So, how do I know what belief I have?

That's what some of my clients ask me.  And for that matter, how do I know what belief is blocking me?  And how do I know it's been changed with ThetaHealing?

Theta Healing uses energy testing (also known as muscle testing or kinesiology) to determine just what is so and not so with the subconscious.  You can use muscle or energy testing to ask yes/no questions.  And in order to do that you first determine what you register as yes and no.

Try this out.  Using your left hand, put your ring finger and your thumb together and hold them together.  Then take the index finger of your right hand and put it through that circle.  Try to open the circle while resisting.  Say "Yes" and test the circle to see if it's still strong.  Say "no" and see what results you get.  If you are testing like most of the population, the circle should be weaker or break open entirely when you test "no".  If it stays the same for both yes and no, then you may need to be more hydrated.  So drink an 8 ounce glass of water and try it again.

Another way to do muscle testing that I liked the best when I first came to Theta is the standing method.  It works best with the Earth's gravitational pull and if you are hydrated.  Our whole body seems to work better when we are hydrated.  Drink some more water.  Stand facing north and say "Yes."  See which way your body is pulled.  Probably it will be pulled slightly forward.  Then, say "no" and see what happens.  Probably you will lean slightly backwards.

Play with this with your name.  Say my name is (Suzanne/your name).  See if your fingers stay strong or you lean forward.  Now say my name is (George or Slugo the dog or some name that is not your name).  See what happens.  Do you lean backward.

Once you get this going so that you know what's what so to speak, you can test out other beliefs.  Here's a couple just to get started.

    I love myself.
I have to work hard to get ahead.

Loving ourselves is where is all begins as far as I'm concerned. And I've worked on that one for years.  I now test yes, most of the time, and some of the time if I'm being particularly down on myself I get a no.  If I'm not loving myself, then I'm not really loving anyone or anything else.  That's when I find a Theta buddy to work with or begin working on myself to see what needs to be changed inside me to get that one back to a "Yes."

"Working hard" is one of the things I learned as I grew up.  "You have to work hard to get ahead."  I remember the Southwest Virginia twang with which that statement was spoken to me over and over.  When I first tested it, I got a "Yes."  Did some Theta work with another practitioner and now I get a "no."  I just checked it too.  (In another post, I'll talk about the 4 levels of beliefs and that one often hits on all 4.)

That's how you know that a belief is gone.  You test before the Theta work and afterwords.  When you take a ThetaHealing class, you will learn how to change beliefs for yourself.  Another way to change beliefs that are not serving you is to work with a ThetaHealing Practitioner.  Theta sessions can be done over the phone or in person.

What's a Belief Got to Do With It?

More and more Quantum Physics is showing us how we create our own realities. In the truth of it, it's all energy and it is our beliefs that keep the table solid and the floor firm beneath us. Currently, I'm in favor of keeping those beliefs, because it's part of that belief system that I'm using to write this. And, there are lot of beliefs that I'm ready to let go of. In fact, if I have not already done so, I'd like to let them go now. Beliefs that I'm not good enough, or not worthy, or not deserving, or that if I don't work hard I'll never make it. Over and over I work with myself and my clients finding these and other beliefs circuitously embedded in the sub-conscious.  Thankfully with ThetaHealing it's easy and quick to unearth and extinguish them.

How did I get all those beliefs? They come from the world around me, from my childhood, from my family traditions. We make meaning of things in totally non-logical ways when we are children. Sometimes we inherit beliefs. Grandma knew if she didn't work hard in the garden, they'd starve in the winter, and that belief, that fear of starving if I don't work hard, somehow gets passed down to me. My Grandmother and mother grew up during the depression, so they saved and re-used everything. I still have some of that mentality that was passed down to me even though I didn't experience the great depression.

In ThetaHealing I found a way change, cancel or clear the beliefs that limit my enjoyment of life. Since I started learning Theta Healing I work on my self pretty much everyday. It's become a major theme in my life, which is why I decided to start a blog about it. Yesterday I discovered a belief that I didn't have the authority to do a blog. How did I discover it, you may ask if you are new to ThetaHealing? Actually it was my friend and pro-blogger, Charlotte who suggested that I should check it. And I used muscle testing to confirm it. (See my article on muscle testing, coming soon.) Sure nuff, when I tested it, I got a "no" on the statement "I have the authority to be a blogger." It wasn't until the next morning that I had time to sit and work with myself. Asking the Source of All that is to give me the Source's definition perspective and understanding of authority, and to show me where this came from I began to unravel a whole thread around writing. To understand this, you need a little additional background on me. I come from the Appalachian mountains and at the time I grew up, this was a whole culture of we're not as good as the rest of the world.

Whoa! I'd never really looked at it this way. Right in the middle of writing this I just discovered that I have a whole cultural belief -- I'm not as good as the rest of the world. I'm not as good as people from the Eastern part of the Virginia or from California (where I live now). That's how it is with beliefs, one has to first be aware and then be willing to stop and check. I really just wanted to write this piece, not stop and do Theta on myself. And right now I'm so grateful I discovered this. And the beauty of Theta is that I can change this belief easily and quickly. Thank you Vianna for asking for and being willing to get this wonderful knowledge to the rest of us.

Back to my point. Those of us in my high school college prep course were told that we were inferior to all the other students from the richer and more intelligent part of the state. We were consistently told that we weren't up to the levels of the rest of the state. And that we'd probably fail college English. Imagine my surprise when I began to get back A's and B's in college English. But of course the belief is stronger than outside proof, so I would set it up time and time again to fall short. I've always written things, but also thought that my writing wasn't as good as ....... whoever I was comparing myself to at the time.

Why am I writing all this? Because I want to give you a real example of where beliefs come from and how they operate in our lives. All my life I've written and loved to write, and rejected my writing and my ability to write. It is only in the last few years that I've come to know I can write, and with Theta I'm beginning to uncover the hidden beliefs that have held me back from writing. While writing this blog post, I've done a whole Theta session on myself including checking and changing some of the beliefs below. I might add that I will also work with my writer and other creative artist clients in this area as well.

How ThetaHealing Saved my House for Me

It's a fine Sunday morning in Southern California. I say fine because there's a bit of a cloud cover that provides coolness in contrast to the heavy heat wave and 100 degree days we've been having. It's also quiet which I love.

It is rarely quiet around my wonderful little house because on one side of me is major construction -- 20 condos in the process of creation. On the other side is a tile place. So on one side is the hammering, concrete cutting, sawing, and constant beep beep of the all the things that have that reverse safety sound and on the other is the grinding of the cutting of ceramic tile. That goes on 6 days a week. Today is my day of quiet.

I credit ThetaHealing with allowing me to stay in my wonderful little house. I keep calling it wonderful because it's a California bungalow that was built in 1912. There's natural fir in the living room, and the feel of a cabin. I spent a lot of time stripping and oiling that wood when I moved in. One of Pasadena's historic oaks lean over the back yard from the screen shop next door making it shady and cooler in the heat of summer. Camphor trees line the street so it's shady in front, too. The neighborhood is safe. I've been here for a long time and I love it. The house just keeps getting re-invented to handle the different aspects of my life -- but that's another story.

The construction on the condos started around the middle of February and I thought I was going to go mad. In the then current iteration of my house I had my office in the dining room. I am also a photographer and spend a lot of time at my computer processing photos. Construction began with the demoliton of the three little houses (similar to mine) next door. The earth shook, and it sounded like the bulldozers were coming through the walls of my dining room as they crunched through walls and slammed major pieces of those little houses into ruble.  My two friendly, always out there with me cats, hid and would not come out. I'm a very auditory person, and I thought I was going to give in to permanent hysteria. I left the house, went to the mountains and began to hike. This was wonderfully calming, but didn’t get my work done. I took to working at night.

All this started, as I remember it, on a Monday. I was scheduled to take my second ThetaHealing Basic class on Friday. We had divided up into our first exercise and everyone was working with everyone else and I thought it was noisy so I said something to my instructor, Steve Parker. He listened and then explained that I needed to learn to do Theta anywhere and at any time. His explanation continued with the comment that Vianna said, "You should be able to do ThetaHealing on a battlefield." (Vianna is Vianna Stibal, founder of ThetaHealing and author of the book ThetaHealing which you can order from me or from Vianna's website www.thetahealing.com.) I went on to grumble about noise everywhere and especially about the construction. Steve, while he holds a firm line, is a compassionate and understanding teacher. He heard the distress underneath my grumbling.

"Would you like to be able to put that sound and the sound of the other people in here in the background and have just what you are focusing on be front and center?"

"Yes." I said firmly and excitedly? Of course, there was a question in my mind, too. Could that really happen with Theta? Would it work? Steve continued on asking my permission every step of the way. (In ThetaHealing nothing occurs without your permission, not one tiny little thing goes on without the permission of the client. That's stressed over and over and over again and I'll write more about it later.)

"Would you like to know that it's possible to put the sound in the background?"

    "Yes," I continued.

"Would you like to know that it's safe to put the sound in the background?"

    ”Yes."

"Would you like to know what it feels like and how to put the sound in the background?"

"Yes." I turned back to my partner, still skeptical that something this quick would work. To my surprise and delight, it did. I was still aware of the sounds around me, but they were indeed in the background. I could focus clearly on my partner without distraction. "But," I said to myself, "This may work here, the real test will be the construction." On Monday morning after the class came the major test. Caterpillars and bulldozers were vying with each other to see who could be the loudest, and yet, I could work. The sounds were in the background. I could focus and still be in my house. I might add that I could also see changes that would make my house more workable in the coming months of the construction. This construction has turned out to have many gifts which I will write about in future blog posts.
